Om het drukke leven van alledag goed aan te kunnen, heeft het lichaam een grote behoefte aan voedingsstoffen. De bioactieve stoffen uit voedsel beschermen je lichaamscellen tegen oxidatie, een van de belangrijkste oorzaken van ontstekingsprocessen, rimpels, problemen met de bloedvaten en verouderingsprocessen of ziektes. Bioactieve stoffen zijn de kleurstoffen die van nature aanwezig zijn in voedsel: het groen uit broccoli, het oranje uit wortel, het rode uit tomaat. Voor deze voedingsstoffen hoef je bij de gemiddelde bezorgkeuken niet aan te kloppen.
Bij veel kant-en-klaar maaltijden zijn ‘lege calorieën’ (veel calorieën, weinig voedingsstoffen) de norm. Deze calorieën komen vooral uit suiker en witmeelproducten zoals pasta, pizza, tortilla’s, frietjes en wittebrood. Suikerbommen in schaapskleren. Wist je dat de bloedglucosespiegel van wit brood sneller stijgt dan van pure suiker? Met de eerste hap stap je in een bloedglucose achtbaan waarvan je achteraf wenst dat je nooit was ingestapt. Binnen no-time crasht de achtbaan in een diep dal met een suikercraving als toetje. Uiteindelijk ‘kost’ elk hapje lege calorieën voedingsstoffen omdat we voor alle processen, ook het verwerken van een fastfoodmaaltijd, in ons lichaam vitamines en mineralen verbruiken.
